British Airways supposedly started using a 747 for SAN-LHR on March 27 but I haven’t seen anything in the news. I’m interested in hearing about it since I’ll be on the flight in July. Have you heard anything?

Yeah, I was just thinking about it this morning. I wasn’t sure exactly what day it was supposed to start, but I just figured I’d see it all over Instagram / Twitter and the blogs when it happened. But I didn’t see anything! I just checked FlightAware and it’s showing the 744, so that’s a good sign. But I really do find it strange that nobody said a peep about it (or posted a pic anywhere) when it switched over. Oh well. Hope you have a great flight – I’m going to try and do it too this summer but it’ll probably have to wait until after August due to other travel I have planned.

Just took the flight a week ago. A 747! Managed to sit on the upper deck. It was an awesome experience– super glad BA put the 747 on the flight to this little town of ours. Hope you enjoy your flight Jim!

Hi Agastya! I actually had a segment booked on an Air India 787-8 a couple years ago (HKG-KIX), but the flight was cancelled and I had to rebook on another airline. I hope to give it another try as soon as the pandemic is over!

2016: It’s a tough choice (all of them are), but I’ll say Club World vs. Upper Class. 747-400, A340-600, jetBlue Mint, and my favorite CRJ* rolled into one.
2017: It’s a three-way tie between Taipei, Hawaiian Island Hopping, and United 747 farewell. Taipei because of those Business Class flights on Asian airlines, Hawaii because turboprops are fun, and United 747 because 747.
2018: JAL Business Class. The airline is top-notch, and the reviews showed it well. Also, honorable mention for Dubai (very interesting) and the 1 millionth mile (Good mix of aircraft and airlines).
2019: Well, the Australia & Asia trip was really interesting (787, 747 upper deck, three A350’s), but the best-written one, I’d say, is the VS/BA/FR/EI trip (Dubai part 2). Chengdu/Shanghai was also enjoyable to read. For video reviews, I liked the previous trip to Europe.
2020: Both Asia trips were nice to read. For the first one, China Eastern was surprising, and what’s not to love about Singapore Airlines business class on the prettiest 787 and A359ULR? As for the February trip, well, what’s not to love about the best 787 Economy, Scott on Scoot, Starlux, Air Asia’s instantly legendary Chicken Rice, and Eva Air Premium Economy?
2021: Here you did more individual reviews, which were still very nice and fun to read, but my favorite series was Delta Comfort Plus and First Class. Very well-written. I also liked the September trip on JetBlue/Delta/Breeze/United.
*Like you, I despise the CRJ-200, but the larger variants are actually quite nice IMHO. 2-2 config with large and well-placed windows, giving the cabin an airy feel, in sharp contrast to the dense-feeling 737 and A320.

Yeah, it was a nice trip to Mexico and back. It was business class both ways – and the reviews are going to be great! I may not get back to overseas flying until later in the summer, as I have a family trip planned for later this month (east coast US), followed by a trip to try out the all new Delta A321neo business class, and then another trip to try the new Breeze A220 business class.

Finally! We’re getting the Westjet 787! It also looks like Air Canada now flies mainline A320’s on YVR-SAN, and I’m also looking forward to the AC 737 MAX.

Yes! The WestJet 787 has been on my list for a long time, and I’m really happy that I got to cross it off my list. I flew business class btw, but premium economy looked really good so I might have to try that next time.
I’ll be posting reviews of all these flights. SAN-YYZ was economy class, but YYC-YVR-SAN was all business class. And yeah, I’m really happy to see mainline aircraft back on YVR-SAN!

How was the American Eagle E145? While I haven’t flown on American’s ERJ’s, I have to say that I’m a pretty big fan of this aircraft. OK, it is incredibly cramped, but the large windows give it a much more spacious feel, and what’s not to love about the 1-2 configuration? It’s very private-jet like IMO.
Plus, it’s a great-looking aircraft.

It was horrible actually. That’s mostly because of bad weather, but the particular aircraft I was on had seen better days. It was beat! I’ll be writing a full review of that flight BTW – I just need to get through my upcoming WestJet and Air Canada reviews first…

Yeah, I’ve been on a few really turbulent flights on E145’s, and some operators (*cough* United *cough*) could keep their ERJ interiors in better conditions. But these aren’t the fault of the aircraft itself- the former is an inherent characteristic of tiny regional jets, and the latter is because of the airlines’ so-called Race to the Bottom(TM).

Now that the KLM 777-200 review is posted, I’m going to go back and pick up where I left off after the AC A220-300 review.
Note that there will be a video for that AC A220 flight – but it might not come until February (the AC 777-300er video will come first).

Hey Peter! Yeah, I had to book that itinerary based on schedule instead of aircraft types since it was a family trip. I didn’t try to get 4 A321s in a row, but it just worked to that way.

Alright, the AC A220 video has been uploaded, so I guess that’s a wrap for Air Canada!
Btw, 2022 was a great year for the blog. Things started out normal, with some domestic flying, but it got really interesting with those trips to Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. Speaking of that Mexico trip, it was nice to see the return of the “International Business Class” tag as well as the updated review format with less bolded text.
The series of domestic trips was nice, I really liked seeing the Westjet 787, the AA E145 review was a fun read, and you ended the year on a high note with that Eurotrip.

3) United A320 First Class

Your top pics are surprising! I certainly had fun doing all those trip reports, but I don’t think I would’ve chose the Air Canada 77W business class review as my favorite. I hate to say it, but…the American eagle E175 might’ve been the pinnacle for me. Haha!
And yes, I’m very glad to have the Air Canada stuff behind me now. Finally.

Yeah, the Hawaii trip was great! I got a lot of really great content that I can’t wait to start posting. And yes – I will be replacing my existing HA A330-200 review with a new one. I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now, since my existing review is just a (lame) transcript of the video I made in 2019.
As a matter of fact, that’s why I chose to fly to LAX instead of SAN this time. HA isn’t flying the A330 to SAN this month – but it’ll be back in March. Since I didn’t want to wait to do this trip, LAX was the next best option.
I actually drove back to San Diego from LAX! I thought it might be more fun to rent a nice car (and do a review of it for my car blog) than it would be to fly a dumpy old E175 down to SAN. lol

“Exotic” is hardly the word I would use to describe Sun Country! Haha…but I get what you mean. They keep a very low profile and I often forget that they even exist half the time. But they’re still chugging along somewhat successfully.
A lot has changed since the last time I flew with them! I will be reviewing both flights separately here on the blog (I flew basic economy from BOS to MSP and then “premium” economy from MSP to SAN). It’ll just be one video covering the entire journey from Boston to San Diego.
I’m also doing to do a written review of my Delta 757-300 experience from SAN to ATL. It’s the first time I’ve been in first class on the Delta 753, so it’s worth reporting on. Spoiler alert: other than the food, it was basically the same as what you saw in my Delta 757-200 first class review from last year.

Nice to see that you spent a few days in Munich! I’ve never been to the actual city, but I’ve transited through MUC more times than I can count. Must’ve been nice to fly directly from SAN as well. As much as I like large major hubs, you can’t beat the conveniency of point-to-point flying from small/midsize airports.
And of course, I’m looking forward to the AF reviews as well! I’m not sure whether I’m more interested in the A220 flight or the CDG-SFO segment.

Yeah, Munich was surprisingly nice! The only other city in Germany I’ve been to is Frankfurt, and I didn’t find it all that interesting honestly. But I really liked Munich.
Flying directly from SAN made it even better. I flew premium economy, which was decent.
The AF A220 was pretty neat. The service was OK (I find KLM to be better for short haul within Europe), but it’s hard not to find fault with an airplane as sexy as the 220 is haha.
The CDG-SFO segment was a doozie! I came extremely close to missing that flight due to long lines at passport control – but it ended up being the 777-300/ER in the SkyTeam livery, so all was not lost.

Glad that you enjoyed Munich. Again, I haven’t been there (nor to Frankfurt for that matter), but yeah, Munich definitely looks more interesting based on what I’ve seen. I have been to Hamburg & Berlin though, both of which I liked.
Agreed on the A220! It’s beautiful AF (pun intended).
And it’s always nice to fly on a special livery aircraft. While it doesn’t impact the interior/onboard experience at all, as an avgeek I find flying on a logojet/special livery fun.

The recent trip you took hits close to home, as I used to live 1 hour from New Orleans. I suppose you’ll be reviewing the Breeze A220 flight?
Oh and just curious, what are your thoughts on the new MSY terminal? Personally I think it’s an improvement over the old one. It’s modern-feeling (if a bit lacking in character), open, airy, and, most importantly, the concourses are actually connected airside, unlike the old terminal.

Hey Peter! Yeah, there will be a full written review and video for the Breeze Airways flight. I went with the “Nicer” seat this time, which is their middle tier option. I’ve had a few requests to review it, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
I’m also going to rewrite my old Delta E175 first class review, as well as doing a review of United 737-700 first class from New Orleans to Houston. I was also hoping to do a review of United 737 MAX 8 first class from Houston to San Diego, but they swapped it out to a dumpy old -800 instead. Oh well.
But yeah, the new terminal at MSY is really nice! The old airport terminal is still standing – which was kind of neat to see (and a bit nostalgic).
I really like the new terminal. Not only because it’s bright and airy, but there are some really good food options as well.

It should be interesting to read a review of a 25-minute SAN-LAX flight, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the Breeze A220 “Nice” seats are like. Lastly, I’m pretty sure the MSY-IAH flight is the first time you’ll be reviewing a flight on a city pair we’ve both flown between. Bummer that the last flight was swapped from a MAX to an -800!

Nice to see that you flew AS and UA’s new SAN-IAD routes! It’s kind of funny how the Alaska flight number is AS777 (I think it’s because they announced this flight after UA started flying this route on the 777). And speaking of 777’s, you got on to fly on N777UA, which I’m pretty sure was the first 777 to enter service!

Anyway, United added the 777-200 in retaliation for Alaska Airlines starting SAN-IAD service. Alaska responded (hilariously) by re-numbering their flight to “777”. Now the only question is, who’s gonna throw in the towel first?
Both of my flights had abysmal load factors. As a matter of fact, the United 777 was easily one of the emptiest flights I’ve ever been on!
These are going to be really fun reviews to put together…

Hi Scott! I checked your myflightradar page and it says that all 4 segments of your recent trip to Minneapolis were in First Class. I’m guessing that you’ll be reviewing every segment except PHX-SAN? I’m saying this because it’s been a while since your first United E175 and Delta 737-900 FC reviews, and I don’t think you’ve ever reviewed First Class on the American Airlines A320.
Either way, it must’ve been a lot more comfortable than your last trip to MSP haha!

Holy cow – you know me almost as well as I know myself! I will indeed be reviewing all segments except for PHX-SAN. Both my existing United E175 first class and Delta 737–900 first class reviews will be updated, but it will be my first time reviewing AA A320 first class. You nailed it!
The purpose of this trip was to visit family, and I had a really hard time trying to put together an itinerary of interesting(ish) flights that I could review. Delta only uses the A321 between San Diego and Minneapolis at the current time unfortunately. I’ve reviewed every class of service on that aircraft already, so I needed to connect through other airports and use this opportunity to update old and outdated reviews.

Yeah, I figured it was time to update my UA CRJ-200 review. It’s going to be a doozy lol. And yeah, that was my first time getting the chance to try Comfort Plus on both the 752 and 753, so those reviews will be nice additions to the archive.
Don’t even get me started on that United 737-800. That was supposed to be a 737 MAX 8 – which makes it like the third or fourth time that it has happened to me this year. I’ve been trying really hard to do a UA 737 MAX first class review!
But no, that aircraft had the old interior. I am going to post a review of it anyway, since the only United 737-800 first class review I have is very old (and not very useful).

Anyway, it’s also really nice to see that to cap off 2023 you flew on 2 of the best US airlines! Specifically, your 4th and 2nd favorite US carriers. Personally B6 and AS are my top 2 favorite US airlines. I’m looking forward to seeing what those flights were like and specifically, how they stack up against each other on a similar route.

That’s actually pretty cool! I didn’t even realize it was that many 737s in a row. Just think how awesome it would be if I would have been born 50 years earlier though. 5 DC-10s in a row has a better ring to it!
Anyway, yes it was really nice to be back on JetBlue again. I had an Even More Space seat at the very front of the plane for that flight, and it was pretty nice. The review for that one starts next week (right after I publish the AS 737 MAX 9 economy review).

But yes – there is logic in those NRT stops. Basically, I’m old, and flying deep into Asia from the US all in one shot (even in business class) is not so easy for me anymore lol. Especially since I’m “working” on these flights (recording video and getting pics for the reviews).
Stopping in Japan or Korea gives me a chance to rest up before continuing on.

There’s (unfortunately) only two SP’s flying around currently, as testbeds for Pratt & Whitney, but it would be pretty cool to see you fly one haha!
Regarding the NRT (and ICN) stops, I didn’t know it was on purpose, but yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Plus, it’s also a win-win, as not only do you get rest, we also get more reviews from the additional short-haul flights within Asia.
And yeah, once again, I’m looking forward to the reviews! I just read the SQ 777 one.
